Radiator Fan removal

Postby Sig » Thu Feb 08, 2007 11:43 pm

So I tooka "slight" spill last year and the radiator fan brackets got bent, pushing the fans into the radiator. I'm really not inclined to fix these or get new ones........but instead just remove them all together.

This is a track day / race only bike so it will only be still for very short periods, i think there is no reason i can't remove them, just wanted to double check.

So i removed the fans, but unfortunately i'm also going to have to replace the radiator as one of the fans got pushed into it and tore a tube. *sigh*

At least yamaha OEM parts are cheap compared to the other three........

You MAY be able to get by without the fan, but I would be very careful and keep a close eye on temperature gauge/warning light and shut down immediately if the engine overheats.

Do you remember how often the fan kicked on prior to your "slight" spill?

Virtually never, the bike came off the track at temp and always heated up on the way back to the pit but just barely got to the temp where the fans would come on, if they did at all, by the time I got back to pits.

Like you said, jus tneed to keep an eye on it.

that fan issue is the very root cause of my engine overheating and blowin up saga. which went to rebuild etc etc etc.

i would STRONGLY advise to not have fans on your race bike.
just do keep a close watch on it in the pits and grid on the hot summer days.
