 What was Vino thinking? It is amazing to me that some of these guys will try doping during the Tour nowadays with all the recent scrutiny and press coverage regarding it, and of course, with the Landis scandal from just last year. Rasmussen looked really really tough today. That guy has always been one of the top climbers in recent tours, but I never really touted him to have the best shot at winning it. Barring a catastrophe in the TT, I can't see him losing it this year. Looks like the battle now is for third. Props to Discovery if they can put Levi and Contador in second and third. It'll be interesting to watch. Man, cycling has got to find a way to get rid of it's drug problems, so we can really see who the best man is come Tour time. Seems like soon as they figure out how to get on top of something, someone just seems to invent something new.

    Rasmussen is out! I didn't even see that in the press that I read after watching the recap on TV. Wow! Well, maybe an American has a chance after all. Go Levi.

RASMUSSEN IS OUT???
What the heck happened?
I get home from my soccer game and turn on Versus and the magical info bar at the bottom just says "he's out...stay tuned for details."

This years tour is not lacking in drama, that's for sure!

You may have already heard by now, but Rasmussen failed to show up for mandatory testing in May and June. Said he was in Mexico with his wife and couldn't make it. Turns out he was actually in Italy doing some training.......and maybe some other things too. :???: What I don't understand is why they let him participate in the first place. Guess they didn't figure he'd be in Yellow with three stages to go. He's canned from the Tour and fired from his team. I will give the organizers credit for making it clear that they are taking this doping thing serious. Guess they don't want even a shadow of doubt that this year's winner is clean considering last year's debacle. BTW, I still don't understand why they let Landis continue on last year. They've flat out canned guys in the past and this year for basically the same thing. Shoot, the French Police handcuffed and booked that Italian guy just the other day immedicately following the stage for testing positive for synthetic testostorone. Can't think of his name at the moment. Started with a M. Yes, no lack of drama this year. Riders getting booted left and right.....top riders at that, and now two teams completely withdrawn. Sheweeee!

Moreni was the other guy who got the boot.
I read an interview where Lance Armstrong is actually happy this is all going down. He said the testing is good and catches the cheaters, ergo he never cheated because he never got a positive result.
(French press results not withstanding)

I guess he feels like he is vindicated.

Anyone up here in Richmond that rides? I'm starting to learn some of the better routes, it's just a matter of getting to the point of doing that 40 mile ride.

:-D Hey, guys....just bought a Bianchi C2C and a pair of Zipp 303 wheels. Well, actually bought it two weeks ago. If any of you ever decide to do any org. rides such as Bridge To Bridge, Brutal 100, BSG, etc. lemme know. I've got a few planned over the next few weeks. And Aaron, again, if you head towards W-S, get in touch.

Congrats on the new purchase. We'll have to do some rides when the heat wave is over. Lately, if you're on the pedals past 10am it's brutal. I'm hoping to get some rides in all next week and around the NC/VA area during the AMA weekend.

Sig, I wasn't aware of that ride. The Jimmy V foundation does good things. I've done their triathlon before back in the day. Not sure if they still do that event or not. Have a great time! The Brutal 100 is also this weekend in West Jefferson. They offer a 50, 75, and 100 miler. I'll be sweating my out of shape cahones off up there in the 75 miler. There is a ride next Sat. in Mt. Airy called Ride the Gap. They offer a 50 and 82 mile option. If you live near the area, you may want to check it out. Also, Bridge To Bridge is mid Sept. It's very popular and fun one to do...not a race, but there is some informal racing that goes on if you are into that. Othwerwise, the scenery is great off the parkway and up to Grandfather Mtn. Happy pedaling, man!

The JimmyV ride was great!

We averaged 20.8 mph over 48 miles. Not blazing fast but not too bad.

I'm going to set a goal for myself of doing blood sweat and gears next year so it's going to mean some serious seat time over the winter. :-D

hi all. just joined the board and did my first TD with you yesterday at VIR-S (slow guy on silver ZZR6, beginner).

For about 5 years I raced road and off road in so-cal....was a decent cat 3, trained 10,000 miles a year and did 40-50 crits a year. After yesterday i'm considering training again...i'm not too worked over physically but you can never be too fit and i'd like to have a little more reserve late in the afternoon of these td's. :D

Glad you had a good time yesterday. It was a blast to ride the South Course again.

After the heat yesterday, I took it easy today and did easy spinning for 30 miles this morning to loosen up.

Pretty cool to find more cyclists out there. One of these days we're going to have to find a central location and all get together for a couple of training rides.

Definitely, I can tell you it helped a ton this past weekend during the GTO up at Summit. I got left at the start, but as the race went on people started slowing up. It was good times seeing the results coming on the track. I'm definitely up for meeting up at some point, I might have to come down to Charlotte at some point and visit some friends and take a ride at the same time one weekend.
