(For FAQs on regular Cornerspeed School and Track Days - CLICK HERE.)

Who is eligible to ride on an open practice day?

Licensed racers (current license) and students only. There is no Street Rider or Sport Enthusiast Groups on Open Practice days unless otherwise specified on the registration form. RETURN TO TOP

Do I have to or can I pre-register for open practice?

Yes, pre-registration is now required for the pre-registered price. VIR does not host practices, these events are held by private businesses such as Cornerspeed. RETURN TO TOP

How much is open practice?

Fees vary based on the track and day of the week (see our Registration Forms or Schedule Page for more information) plus there is a gate fee which is determined by the racing organization that is present that particular weekend. If you want to know the exact amount of the gate fee, call the racing organization for the definitive answer. IF the sanctioning racing body (such as AMA, WERA or F-USA) control the practice, you'll pay whatever price they set. RETURN TO TOP

What are the tech requirements?

For Racers: If it's a CCS weekend, we'll have CCS tech guys working. If it's a WERA weekend, we'll have WERA tech guys working and so on. So you'll need to have your stuff up to their standards. If you want to know the exact details, check your rulebook or call the racing organization for the definitive answer.

Cornerspeed students can see our tech requirements by clicking here: TECH REQUIREMENTS. RETURN TO TOP

Will the track be open Thursday night for set-up or camping?

Not always. It's best to call VIR to find out which events will have the gate open on Thursday night. The number at VIR is 434-822-7700. RETURN TO TOP

What about hotels near the track and directions?

VIR's website has all the information you need from hotels to maps and directions. That web address is http://www.virnow.com. The phone number at VIR is 434-822-7700. RETURN TO TOP

I don't have a racing license, can I ride?

You can enroll in the Cornerspeed school and ride as a student. See Registration forms. RETURN TO TOP

I need to get re-certified or get an updated diploma - how do I do that?

If you need a copy of your original diploma, please email us and we can mail it to you.

Most racing organizations require that you have taken an accredited school in the last 12 months to apply for a race license. If you need to get re-certified to obtain your race license, please read this information first:

  • You must have taken our Riderschool in the last 24 months AND you need to have continued to ride with us (minimum of 4 events per year since the school).
  • You will need to sign up for one of our track day events so that an instructor can ride with you and evaluate your riding.
  • You will need to re-take the written exam at the end of the track day (taken with the Riderschool).
  • The re-certification cost is $45.00.
  • Please email us to schedule your re-certification.

If it has been more than 2 years since you took the school, or if you have not ridden with us since taking our school, you will need to re-take the full school.

What's the normal schedule?

Registration opens shortly after 7am. Rider's meeting will be at 8:00am. First session rolls at 8:30am. Standard lunch break at noon unless we have delays. Sessions resume at 1pm and go til 5pm. The student mock race takes place between 5:10pm and 5:30pm. RETURN TO TOP
